I’m a producer, musician, songwriter, musical director and mixer and have worked with artists from all genres for over 35 years. My first instrument is guitar although I’ve turned my hand to almost anything that has strings. Except the violin. Not the violin.

I’ve recorded and produced in all genres, been in many (too many?) bands, and have been signed to Chrysalis, Zomba, Rough Trade, Polydor, Universal, BMG and Sony. I’ve worked for hundreds of labels and publishers over the years. I’ve played/produced/written/mixed in all areas of modern and traditional music, including large corporate projects and audiobooks.

I’ve been musical director on many diverse projects from international pop artists to singer songwriters – everything from putting bands together and programming to arranging songs and directing on the road.

My parents are folk legends Peggy Seeger and Ewan MacColl, my half-sister Kirsty MacColl, and I’ve been playing music and singing almost since before I remember.  From touring with my parents as a child, I later went on to record and produce many of their albums.

I’m not available for weddings and funerals (unless I know you well), but I’m always interested in creative projects.

Red Grape Music

In 2007, my wife Kerry Harvey-Piper and I started Red Grape Music.

Red Grape Music is an independent music company providing management, label, publishing, recording and production services to artists. The first release, ‘Dirty Paper Cup’ by international artist Hafdis Huld, won Pop Album of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards.  Another release, ‘Primary Transmission’ by experimental dance producer Broadcaster, holds the distinction of having been played on BBC Radios 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6Music – almost a BBC full house. We’re driven by commitment to the artists we work with and are always passionate about what we do.  Our management and label roster is deliberately small so that we can give each artist the attention that they deserve. We believe in the power of teamwork and work with a range of great people in promo, licensing and distribution who we know will always do a great job.

We are members of AIM (Association of Independent Music) and MMF (Music Managers Forum).
